Quality Coffees, a family-owned specialty coffee operation from Guatemala's Santa Elena Barillas region, has mapped out an aggressive five-show exhibition schedule for 2026 as the company pushes its micro-lot production into expanded U.S. markets.

The operation, overseen by fourth-generation producer Pablo del Cid and his Lithuanian-born partner Eva Varanaviciute del Cid, has refocused entirely on high-quality micro lots since 2020, abandoning commodity coffee production to target specialty roasters and distributors through direct trade fair participation.

Century-Old Farm Pivots to Premium Market

Operating from Finca El Jardin, a property acquired by the del Cid family over 100 years ago, Quality Coffees sits within proximity of Guatemala's Pacaya Volcano, providing the volcanic soil conditions prized by specialty coffee buyers. The farm processes coffee using three distinct methods—washed, natural, and honey—to create varied flavor profiles for different market segments.

"The shift to micro lots has completely transformed our business model," said Pablo del Cid, farm operations director. "Rather than selling volume to commodity brokers, we're building direct relationships with roasters who value traceability and unique processing methods."

Recent plantings include Pacamara, SL 28, Batian, various Ethiopian strains, and Anacafe 14 varietals, positioning the farm to offer specialty lots with distinct cup profiles by 2027-2028 harvest seasons.

Strategic Exhibition Portfolio Targets Multiple Channels

Quality Coffees' 2026 exhibition strategy spans five shows, with Coffee Fest Los Angeles serving as the primary specialty coffee industry touchpoint. The remaining four exhibitions—including jewelry, textiles, and furniture fairs—suggest a diversified approach to reaching potential B2B customers beyond traditional coffee channels.

"Trade shows remain the most efficient way for specialty coffee producers to establish direct relationships with U.S. buyers," said Maria Rodriguez, exhibition director at Coffee Trade Association. "Small-batch producers especially benefit from the face-to-face interaction that builds trust around quality and consistency."

Micro-Lot Strategy Drives Premium Positioning

The company's focus on micro lots—typically 5-50 bag productions from specific farm sections—allows Quality Coffees to command premium prices while building relationships with specialty roasters seeking unique origin stories. Each lot undergoes individual processing and quality assessment, with cupping scores and processing notes provided to potential buyers at trade shows.

"Small-scale producers who can demonstrate consistency and quality control have significant advantages in today's specialty market," noted industry analyst James Thompson. "Direct relationships built at trade shows often translate into multi-year purchasing agreements that provide income stability for farming operations."

Quality Coffees plans to showcase its 2026 harvest lots at the Coffee Fest exhibition, with advance samples available for roaster evaluation and potential pre-purchase agreements.
