Strong Convention Performance Drives Economic Growth
The Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB) and Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority (PCCA) released their joint 2025 Annual Report, revealing that Philadelphia hosted 304 events booked by the PHLCVB throughout the year. The events welcomed 559,304 attendees and generated 529,144 hotel room nights, delivering a total economic impact of $496 million.
Among the 304 events, 16 qualified as citywides - conventions or events that generate more than 2,000 hotel rooms on their peak night. "We are proud to share the results of a year that prioritized long-term success for our industry and our city," said Gregg Caren, president and CEO of the PHLCVB.
Specialized Business Divisions Drive Attendance
The PHLCVB's three specialized business development divisions contributed significantly to the city's convention success. PHL Life Sciences welcomed 85 events with more than 70,000 attendees and nearly 147,000 hotel room nights. PHL Diversity-related events included more than 27,000 attendees and nearly 40,000 hotel room nights.
PHL Sports proved particularly effective, drawing nearly 260,000 fans to Philadelphia and generating 108,000 hotel room nights from events including the NCAA DI Men's Wrestling Championship and the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
Strategic Partnership Enhancement
The PHLCVB and PCCA reached a major milestone in 2025 with the launch of their strategic alliance sales model. According to John J. McNichol, president and CEO of the PCCA, "The events hosted at our facility and booked by our partner PHLCVB continue to serve as the major economic drivers of the region's hospital sector."
The strategic alliance sales model is designed to accelerate bookings, enhance service consistency, and sharpen Philadelphia's competitive edge by delivering a more unified, efficient, and client-focused experience.
International Tourism Growth
Philadelphia's international tourism sector generated substantial economic impact, with 1.025 million international visitors contributing $1 billion to the local economy in 2025. The city's top international markets included Canada with 411,900 visitors (down 23% year-over-year), United Kingdom with 84,100 visitors (down 11%), India with 64,600 visitors (up 3%), Germany with 42,000 visitors (down 24%), and China with 34,200 visitors (up 5%).
