Record Attendance Marks Strong Recovery

The 2026 New York International Auto Show delivered a more than 25% increase in paid registration compared to the same period last year, marking a strong performance for the 126-year-old automotive trade event. Held April 3-12 at the Javits Center, with industry and media days taking place March 31-April 2, the show attracted over 5,500 registered media and industry professionals during its press preview.

"We're thrilled to see such an incredible turnout and enthusiasm from attendees this early in the show," said NYIAS president Mark Schienberg. "Such an increase in paid gate is a testament to the enduring appeal of the auto show and the excitement surrounding the automotive industry right now."

Comprehensive Vehicle Showcase

Spanning more than 850,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor exhibit space, the show featured more than 35 manufacturers displaying hundreds of model vehicles. More than 30 brands participated, including German luxury leaders Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche, alongside Ford, Hyundai, Subaru, and Toyota.

Notable debuts included the Hyundai Boulder Concept SUV, which made its surprise global debut at the event. The show floor also featured exclusive vehicles including the Zenvo Aurora AGIL V12 and the Koenigsegg Regera, alongside the Subaru Brataroo 9500 Turbo, a high-flying, active-aero equipped car built for the latest Gymkhana film.

Interactive Experiences Drive Engagement

The show maintained its focus on hands-on experiences through multiple ride-and-drive programs across four tracks, including Hyundai's indoor EV experience. Camp Jeep returned with its off-road course, featuring a 28-foot, 42-degree hill climb experience that transformed part of the show floor into a full-scale off-road adventure.

Independent visitor experience research conducted by Clarify Group found that more than 8 in 10 visitors said the New York Auto Show influences or supports their vehicle purchase decision. The research reinforced the value of hands-on access, expert conversations, and the ability to compare options in one location.

Industry Forums and Special Events

The World Traffic Safety Symposium, a key annual industry event held during NYIAS, gathered global safety experts, policymakers, and automotive leaders. Jennifer Homendy, chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board, spoke at this year's event.

The show also hosted the new Automotive News Global Outlook panel, which tackled subjects ranging from politics and global economics to international influences. Additionally, the R2X Expo Rides + Rigs highlighted custom tuner vehicles, modified builds, and unique designs from aftermarket performance upgrades to one-of-a-kind creations.

Looking Ahead

Organizers announced plans to expand indoor ride-and-drives to include gas-powered vehicles next year after receiving approval from the city and convention center. The next NYIAS is scheduled to return March 26-April 4, 2027, to the Javits Center.
